Photo ID

Indiana residents must present a valid photo ID before casting a ballot at the polls on Election Day.

To be acceptable the ID must meet the following 4 criteria:


  1. Display the voterís photo

  2. Display the voterís name, and the name must substantially conform with the voter registration record.

  3. Display an expiration date or expired sometime after the date of the last General Election (November 2,2010)

  4. Be issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government.


Your Indiana driverís license, Indiana photo ID card, US passport, or military ID will meet this requirement.

If you do not have an acceptable ID for voting, all Indiana BMV branches will issue an Indiana ID card free of charge. You must tell the branch personnel that you need the ID for voting purposes in order for them to waive the fee.
